The Hillsborough County UF/IFAS Extension invited residents to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Florida Extension on Thursday, Oct. 9 at the UF/IFAS Extension Office, 5339 CR579 in Seffner. The year-long celebration is part of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 which officially established the Cooperative Extension Service, allowing the public to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of land-grant universities. Extension has helped millions of Floridians by tapping the latest information from the research engines of the University of Florida and Florida A&M University. From making healthier food choices, saving money and growing better crops to conserving water and energy - many Floridians have learned from Florida Extension, creating practical knowledge that can be used every day. Popular programs include 4-H youth development and Master Gardeners.
